Group Stage Gets Underway as Beach Sports Championship Opens in Figueira da Foz

Beach Handball, Beach Volleyball and Beach Soccer marked the opening day, with a strong crowd creating a lively atmosphere on the beach.

The 2026 FISU World University Championship Beach Sports got underway this Thursday, 17 September, in Figueira da Foz, with the Group Stage beginning in Beach Handball, Beach Volleyball and Beach Soccer. The opening day was also marked by a strong atmosphere at the competition venue, with a significant number of spectators following the action from the stands.

The first matches of the Championship brought the participating university teams into competition across the three disciplines, as the Group Stage began in preparation for the decisive stages of the tournaments.

Competition continues tomorrow, 18 September, with the second day bringing the debut of Beach Wrestling to the Championship, with the finals scheduled for the end of the day.
